Any agricultural and plantation products must also take care of this certificate document first. Having it in your hand can ensure the plant has all the proper documents to shippend it successfully. Almost all countries issue a Phytosanitary certificate, even Indonesia. 

What is a Phytosanitary Certificate in Indonesia?

Phytosanitary certificate is the document that you needed if you want to export domestic products to other countries. If you purchase a plant from another country, you also need this certificate to make sure it can be delivered safely to your home. Here is the information that you need about the Phytosanitary certificate in Indonesia. 

1. Safety Reason

The certificate guaranteed that the plant in question is free from germs, fungi, bacteria that can cause health issues. No country wants suspicious plants to enter their home that can cause botanical hazardous plants. 

2. Products

The certificate includes spices, fresh fruit, coffee beans, rubber, pepper, palm oil, and many others. Animals and fish products also use the same certificate. There are many other products that need this certificate, however, we will concentrate on plants. 

3. Information

The document includes various essential information that is needed to transport the products, some of them are quantity, the sender and recipient’s name, the type of packages, and others detailed information. Please note that the most important explanation is if the product is free from Quarantined Plant Destruction Organisms (OPTK) or not. 

4. The law

Phytosanitary Certificates are mandatory based on the 1992 concerning Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine number 16. Another law is the Government Regulation No. 14 of 2002 concerning Plant Quarantine.

How to Get Your Phytosanitary Certificate from Indonesia ?

Different countries have different regulations concerning Phytosanitary Certificates. You can  export plants abroad by applying for the certificate in its proper organization. Here are the steps that you need to follow to obtain the certificate. 

1. Place to Apply

Indonesia has NPPO or the National Plant Protection Organization to issue the certificate. The organization handles various plants and plant based products to be exported. After that, you need to go to the Agricultural Quarantine Center to obtain the certificate. The representative offices are available in various cities in Indonesia, usually near the Indonesia’s export ports.

2. Submission 

You can submit a Phytosanitary certificate by using the Online Quarantine Check Application. You are using the IQFAST (Indonesian Quarantine Full Automation System to do all application processes online. You need to set up an account with your username ID and password). 

3. Requirement Document

The online registration required for the sender to submit several documents. Here are some potential documents that you need to prepare. 

  • An signed application letter to become a PPK Online user
  • Copy of NPWP, KTP, Deed of Business Establishment, Certificate of Company Domicile, SIUP/SIUJPT, Importer Identification Number, and PPJK Registration.

These are some of the potential documents that you may need to submit if you are sending as a company. The rules may differ if you send the item as individuals. You can visit the official websites and check-out their regulations. 

4. Apply

Now you have an account in the PPK Online. You can apply for a Phytosanitary certificate by reporting the release plan of your plant or plant-based product. You send the application to the  Chief Technical Officer of Agricultural Quarantine. 

If your application is accepted, you will receive a Letter of Assignment issued for an inspection from the quarantine officers. Some of the inspiction aspects include : 

  • Administrative Examination, your documents are checked for completeness, correctness,  and validity.
  • Health Inspection, your plant or plant-based product is checked and double checked using laboratory testing and visual observation.  

5. Receive The Certificate

You obtain the Phytosanitary certificate after the inspection is finished and your plant is declared healthy and free from trouble. Phytosanitary Certificate will be issued as soon as possible.
